Women's Golf Ready for Pinehurst Challenge

NORMAL, Ill - The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Pinehurst, NC., to compete in the Pinehurst Challenge, its second to last tournament before the Missouri Valley Championship, Monday and Tuesday. The competition will be three rounds of play, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m., Monday, while the final round will be played Tuesday at 8 a.m. Pinehurst Resort, the site of the tournament, is a 5,993-yard, par-72 configuration

The Redbirds will look for a solid outing from their senior leader, Katie Jean, as she began the season with exceptional performances, stringing together 6 consecutive top 10 performances. Last week's Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite, however, proved to be a test, as Jean finished in 28th place and led the Redbirds to a 12th place finish overall.

Others competing for the Redbirds will be junior Jordyn Wyzgowski, who finished 44th at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite. Junior Rachel Powers, sophomore Hayley Guyton and junior Carlee Cossell will round out the Redbird lineup.

The Redbirds will compete against 18 other teams, including Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Dartmouth, Delaware, Jacksonville, James Madison, Morehead State, North Florida, Old Dominion, Penn State, Richmond, Rollins, Samford, St. John's, Tennessee Tech and William & Mary. The tournament field also includes Missouri Valley Conference rival Wichita State
