NORMAL, Ill. - In their second event of the spring season the Illinois State women's golf team will make a return trip to Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Classic. The event hosted by the College of Charleston will feature 33 teams playing on two different courses.

In their previous trip, the Redbirds finished ninth of 15 teams in the Palmetto Invitational, their last tournament of the fall competing on the same two courses as this weekend's tournament.

Head coach Darby Sligh believes her team's familiarity with their surroundings will play to her team's¬ advantage.

"This is a great event for us to start our spring season. We have traveled to Kiawah many times and are very comfortable in such a beautiful place. Both of these courses put a premium on course management and placement, and I believe that suits this team very well," said Sligh. "We will need a total team effort to solidify a top spot in the largest collegiate event in the country."

Competing for the Redbirds will be junior Katie Jean who notched a top 10 finish at the event in the fall. In addition to Jean will be senior Hannah Bachman and sophomores Brianna Cooper, Rachel Powers, Jordyn Wyzgowski and Carlee Cossell.

The tournament will begin Sunday with play kicking off at 9:30 a.m. at both the Oak and Cougar courses in Kiawah Island. Both courses play at Par 72 with the Oak Course measuring in at 5,902 yards, and the Cougar Course playing at 6,001 yards.

Live scoring will be available through GolfStat.com throughout the weekend.
