NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team gets its spring season underway Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 25-26 as the Redbirds will compete in the Fighting Camel Spring Classic hosted by Campbell University. The 36-hole event will take place at the Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C.

As a team, the Redbirds finished in the top-eight in each of their five fall events, including a season-best fourth-place finish at the Shoot-Out at the Legends Oct. 8-9, 2007.

Head coach Darby Sligh and her team are ready to get back on the course after a long winter break.

"Our girls have been working very hard on their wedge and short games over break," said Sligh. "Winter can get pretty long when you are stuck inside all the time, so the opportunity to get out on grass and compete is very important for our team."

Illinois State was led in the fall by sophomore Stacey Miller, who compiled a team-best 76.9 scoring average. Also competing for the Redbirds are junior co-captain Marci Hill, sophomores Laura Harris and Britt Knutson and true freshman Terra Miller.

Keith Hills Country Club course No. 1 plays host to the 15th annual Fighting Camel Spring Classic. The par-72, 6,012-yard course is one of two tracks located just southwest of the Campbell University campus.

"Keith Hills has a good layout and will be a great test for us to start the spring season," said Sligh. "We are just keeping our fingers crossed for good weather and hopefully there is not too much rust for the girls to shake off."

Tee times for the 15-team event are set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start Monday and Tuesday, with 18-holes being played each day.
