BLANCO, Texas - The Illinois State women's golf team was led by junior Rachel Powers Sunday at the Jim West Challenge, in swirling 25 mph winds, in Blanco, Texas. Powers shot a 4-over-par 152 (76-76) through the first two rounds to top the individual leader board. ISU will begin the third and final round Monday sitting in second place behind Texas State, after finishing with a team score of 639 (331-308).

Head coach Darby Sligh looks forward to finishing strong in the final round.

"What an incredibly tough day on the course with very difficult greens and 25 mph winds," Sligh explained. "We got absolutely nothing out of round one and squeezed every ounce we could out of round two. I hope this team takes its finish today into tomorrow. They showed great poise at the end of a tough day. I'm not sure if anyone can understand how good Rachel's scores were in these conditions, and she deserves to be on top of the leader board. The field is packed together so tomorrow will take another strong showing to hold on to second place."

Senior Katie Jean tallied another significant contribution to the Redbirds, as she shot an 10-over-par 154 (79-75), finishing tied for fourth place on the individual leader board.

Rounding out the Redbird lineup was junior Jordyn Wyzgowski with a score of 171 (87-84), followed by junior Carlee Cossell with a score of 171 (89-82) and sophomore Hayley Guyton with a day one score of 174 (95-79).

The Redbirds will resume action at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday with a shotgun start at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
