Feb. 16, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Amelia Island, Fla., to compete in the Amelia Island Collegiate Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The competition will be a shotgun start both days with a tee time at 7 a.m. (CST), featuring 54 holes. Two rounds are set for Monday (36 holes) and one for Tuesday (18 holes) at the par-72 Amelia National Golf Club course.

After an exhibition at the Illinois Challenge, head coach Darby Sligh is looking for her team to regain some its footing, as it enters the first official tournament of the spring season.

"There is always excitement surrounding our first regular season event, especially after being able to knock some winter rust off during the Illinois Challenge," Sligh said. "There are specific things each player is focusing on both mentally and physically, and I look forward to seeing our progress."

Competing for the Redbirds will be seniors Rachel Powers and Jordyn Wyzgowski. Juniors Hayley Guyton, Lauren English and Brianna Cooper will round out the line-up populated with upperclassmen.

Illinois State will compete against 13 other teams across all conferences, including Cincinnati, Daytona State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, North Florida, Stetson, Winthrop, Wofford College and Xavier.
