Women's Golf Ready for Jim West Challenge

NORMAL, Ill. - NORMAL, Ill. - In their second event of the spring season the Illinois State women's golf team will head to Blanco, Texas for the Jim West Challenge. The competition begins Sun., Feb. 17 and will continue through Mon., Feb 18, where there will be three rounds of play, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m., Sun, while the final round starting at 8:15 a.m. the following day. Vaaler Creek Golf Club, the site of the tournament, is a 6,100-yard, par-72 configuration.

Head coach Darby Sligh is excited to see her team compete.

"After a solid showing down at the Illinois Challenge, I think everyone would agree that we are excited to get back into competition mode," said Sligh. "Practice has been very impressive lately on the level of focus and determination and that's what I'm really looking for this weekend. It's time to start putting it all together."

Competing for the Redbirds will be senior Katie Jean, who leads the Redbirds in scoring average, and junior Rachel Powers who is second to Jean in scoring average. Sophomore Hayley Guyton, junior Jordyn Wyzgowski and junior Carlee Cossell will round out the Redbird lineup.

The Redbirds will compete against 11 other teams, including Arkansas State, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Tennessee State, Louisiana Monroe, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, Texas State, University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of Texas at El Paso and William & Marry.
