NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will head to the sunny-weather in Venice, Fla Ind., to compete in the fifth-annual Illinois Challenge on Sunday, February 3. The event will be played at the par-72, 5,094-yard Venice Golf & Country Club and will feature a dual meet against the University Illinois. At the meet, the teams will compete in four ball matches before golfers from each school go head-to-head in the individual matches in an all-day event.

The Redbirds enter the competition with momentum from senior Katie Jean. Jean is a former 3-time Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week and has finished in the top-10 in her last five-consecutive tournaments, including a first place finish at the Redbird Invitational. ISU looks to achieve their first victory in the Challenge's five-year existence.

Head Coach Darby Sligh looks forward to the beginning of the spring season and the unique tournament format set for Sunday's match.

"As always, this is an exciting time of the year for us as we start our spring season," Sligh explained. "We have seen great gains both physically and mentally in the last 3 weeks of practice and I'm looking forward to see who will break out and put it all out on the table. This event gives us a unique opportunity to both compete with teammates in a match format which we don't see in collegiate golf during our seasons, and I think that will be beneficial to our success in the morning 4-ball matches."

Others competing for the Redbirds will be junior Rachel Powers, who finished a season-best 13th at the Johnie Imes Invitational. Juniors Jordyn Wyzgowski and Carlee Cossell, sophomore Hayley Guyton and freshman Courtnee Cossell will round out the Redbird lineup.
