Women's Golf Welcomes Iowa Transfer

Jan. 30, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team added Bloomington-native Lauren English to its roster, as announced by head coach Darby Sligh Thursday. Transferring from Iowa, where she played for two and a half seasons, English has opted to finish her collegiate career as a Redbird.

"We are extremely excited to have Lauren back in the Bloomington-Normal community and welcome her into the Redbird family," Sligh said. "She will be an important asset to our program in the next year and a half. I look for her to make an immediate impact on our already deep roster of talent. Her proven level of success and competitiveness will only push this team to be better in the long run."

Graduating from University High School in 2011, English was ranked in the top-50 for her class and as the No. 1 player in Illinois. She went on to have an exceptional two years at Iowa, where she played 62 rounds in 21 tournaments had a stroke average of 77.5. After firing a career-low 18-hole score of 68 last year at the Johnie Imes invitational, English tied for second-lowest score in Iowa history. That same year English placed in the top-10 at four separate events and shot a 54-hole score of 216 at the Challenge at Onion Creek, setting a new career low and became the second-lowest score in Iowa history.

Needless to say the arrival of veteran English is exciting news to the Redbirds, who will be graduating three seniors at the end of this season.

Illinois State will return to action for the first time this year Sunday, February 2, in Venice, Fla., to face in-state rival Illinois at the Illinois Challenge.
