NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's golf team has added former University High School (Normal) standout and Auburn transfer Marisa Milligan for the spring 2008 season. Milligan brings with her a long list of accomplishments, both as a prep and at the collegiate level.
Milligan and Illinois State head women's golf coach Darby Sligh are familiar with each other, as they both competed in the Southeastern Conference during their respective collegiate careers. Milligan competed for Auburn from 2005-07, while Sligh was a member of the Alabama women's golf team from 2001-05 prior to becoming the Redbird women's golf team's head coach.
Sligh believes that Milligan will have a strong impact on the ISU program.
"Marisa brings us a wealth of experience and success from a top division 1 program," said Sligh. "She knows how to win, and we are extremely excited to have her join the Redbird family. With her work ethic and success both on the course and in the classroom, she's a great addition to an already sound foundation."
While at Auburn, Milligan participated in the 2007 SEC Championship, the 2007 NCAA East Regional and the 2007 NCAA Championships, all while finishing the season ranked 69th individually. Milligan also claimed one victory while at Auburn as she captured 2006 Derby Invitational medalist honors.
Milligan also had a decorated high school career, as she placed sixth at the 2004 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Championships with a two-round-total of 161. Also, in the summer of 2005, she won the Illinois State Amateur Championship.
Milligan has enrolled at Illinois State for the spring 2008 semester and will be eligible to compete immediately with two and a half years of eligibility remaining . Her sister, Lindsey, played collegiate golf at Illinois, while her father, Mike, competed for Houston. Milligan plans to major in Biology.
