Redbirds Place Seventh at the Shootout at The Legends

FRANKLIN, Ind. - Senior Hilary Anderson led the Illinois State women's golf team with a three-round total of 224 (72, 77, 75) tying for 13th place individually as the `Birds secured a seventh-place finish at the Shootout at The Legends, Tuesday at The Legends of Indiana Golf Club.

The Redbirds fired a three-round total of 905 (301, 303, 301), their best round of the fall season.

"Our goal was to move up," said assistant coach Pina Gentile. "However, considering how low some of the scores were, seventh-place was a good finish."

Gentile is pleased with the team's progress.

"We have made a good stride over the last three tournaments," said Gentile.

Sophomore Tiffany Hockensmith finished just one shot behind Anderson firing a 225 (77, 76, 72) and tied for 16th individually. Freshman Stacey Miller shot a 228 (77, 75, 76) and tied for 31st. Freshman Britt Knutson fired a 230 (76, 75, 79) while sophomore Marci Hill finished just one stroke behind with 231 (76, 77, 78).

"We had a solid round today," Gentile said. "We had a lot of positives."

Campbell took home first-place with 877 (300, 287, 290), while Illinois finished 13 shots out of first with 890 (301, 297, 292). Wisconsin (304, 293, 297) and Toledo (302, 291, 301) tied for third-place with 894 strokes. Eastern Michigan shot 895 (301, 302, 292) to secure a fifth-place finish, while Missouri State shot 904 (302, 302, 300), one stroke ahead of ISU, for sixth. Iowa (296, 302, 311) and Southern Illinois (306, 302, 301) tied for eighth with 909 strokes. Western Michigan shot 910 (302, 304, 304) for 10th followed by, Georgetown (11th), Northern Illinois (12th), Cincinnati (13th), Ball State (14th) and St. John's (15th). Indiana State and Ohio tied for 16th, while Old Dominion finished 17th.

 

 

Gentile is looking forward to the recently added final tournament of the season.

"We will get a chance to see other Missouri Valley Conference teams and that will help us prepare for the spring," Gentile said.

The MVC Preview Tournament is being hosted by Bradley and will take place on Oct. 30-31 at Weaver Ridge in Peoria.
