Louisville, Ky. - Illinois State seniors Stacey Miller and Laura Harris led the Redbirds to a two-round team score of 595 (298-297) after the first day of the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup. The `Birds ended the day in fourth place out of the 12-team field.

"This was a great day for Redbird golf," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We played two very solid rounds despite saturated conditions from torrential rains yesterday and last night. The girls had a great mindset going into today and I believe that really paid off. Stacey and Laura are both playing so well right now and are very fun to watch. I'm very proud of the way they both have stepped up and are leading this team."

Harris finished the first round with a 1-under-par 71 after posting three birdies to tie for second place individually. Miller tied for fifth with an even-par 72, while senior Marisa Milligan tied for 24th with a 4-over-par 76. Junior Terra Miller fired a 7-over-par 79 to tie for 42nd place, while senior Christine Larson was not far behind carding an 80 to tie for 49th. With all five players shooting 80 or under, the `Birds finished the first round in third place with a team score of 298.

Miller entered the second round firing six birdies to shoot a 3-under-par 69 and place her in a tie for first place. Harris ended the day in sixth place after carding a 3-over-par 75. Milligan also shot a 75, moving her up to tie for 23rd. Miller and Larson fired a 78 and an 80 consecutively. Miller ended the day in a tie for 40th place, while Larson finished in a tie for 56th place.

"We are still having spots in the round where shots are being wasted, so we are working on getting better as a team in that area," Sligh said. "This has been another great start for us and we're looking forward to playing well tomorrow."

Louisville has the lead with a two-round score of 575 (289-286), while Kentucky and Maryland are tied for second after both teams fired a 593 (303- 290).

Laura Anderson and Sara-Maude Juneau of Louisville join Miller in the tie for first place.

The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Live stats will be available at Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, TRC gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
