Sept. 18, 2012
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - Senior Katie Jeantallied another top-10 performance, as she led the Illinois State women's golf team at the Cardinal Cup Tuesday. Jean shot a final score of 220 (70-76-74), which was 11 strokes short of a first-place finish. Jean's 4-over-par performance marks the second time she has cracked the top-10 in the team's first two tournaments of the season.
Illinois State finished the three-round tournament in 11th place, shooting a 926 (289-317-320) score. ISU was 30 strokes behind first-place finishers Louisville (896).
Head Coach Darby Slighwants her team to find a way to be more consistent.
"When you look at a team that shoots 289 and then begin reflecting on our final round, we flat out didn't get it done," explained Sligh. "We didn't do our job. We must figure out a way to become more consistent across the line up. Katie had another solid performance, but as a team, we missed a huge opportunity to capitalize on a great start to this event."
Junior Rachel Powerstallied a score of 228 (68-78-82), after an impressive first round 4-under-par performance (68). Powers finished in 27th place on the individual leader board.
Rounding out the Redbird lineup was sophomore Hayley Guyton with a 54-hole score of 239 (76-80-83), followed by junior Jordyn Wyzgowski with a score of 242 (75-86-81) and freshman Courtnee Cossell with a final score of 255 (84-83-88). Carlee Cossell, who competed as an individual, finished with a 265 (85-89-91).
The Redbirds will be back in action Monday, September 24, in Lawrence, Kan., for the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Tournament.
