Women's Golf in Fourth at Valley Championship

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Illinois State women’s golf team currently stands in fourth place after two rounds at the 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship. At the conclusion of play Monday, the Redbirds hold a team score of 619 (305-314), while Northern Iowa continues to lead the field with a score of 610 (299-311) at the Country Club of Terre Haute.

Head women’s golf coach Darby Sligh wants to see more from her team in the final round.

“Today wasn't the day we were hoping for,” Sligh said. “We dropped a ton of senseless shots in which we were faced with hampering winds. We are certainly not out of this championship, but we must bring our best tomorrow in order to have a chance at it. Everyone will have to play a part for this to come together. Congratulations to Katie Jean on two incredibly solid rounds.”

Jean once again led the Redbirds, and is now in a tie for second only one stroke behind the lead. She currently holds a four-over-par score of 148 (74-74). Sophomore Brianna Cooper is in a tie for 15th with a score of 156 (76-80), and stands at 12-over-par. In a tie for 23rd, sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski holds a score of 159 (78-81). Tied for 28th, senior Hannah Bachman (81-79) and sophomore Rachel Powers (77-83) both finished round two with a score of 160.

The final round of the tournament is will begin Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. start.
