BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Illinois State women’s golf team finished in a sixth place tie Sunday at the 15-team Indiana Invitational. The Redbirds posted a team score of 314 at the 18-hole tournament, which was shortened due to rain on Saturday. Host school Indiana won the invitational with a tally of 298.

Head women’s golf coach Darby Sligh is looking forward to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.

“I'm proud of the girls for fighting through tough conditions and moving up the leader board,” Sligh said. “It's a shame the weather cut the invitational short, as we couldn't get in as much competitive work as I would have liked leading up to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. This is a huge week of preparation for us to try and defend our Missouri Valley Conference title, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this team responds.”

Rachel Powers finished in a tie for 16th after carding a five-over-par 77. She was followed up by Hannah Bachman and Katie Jean, who ended their day in a tie for 28th after both recorded a six-over-par score of 78. Brianna Cooper contributed a nine-over-par 81 to finish in a tie for 51st, while Jordyn Wyzgowski posted a 12-over-par 84 to finish in a tie for 69th.

The Redbirds will look to defend their conference title beginning April 22, when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.
