Women's Golf Wraps up Play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite in Hawaii

KAMEOHE BAY, Oahu -The Illinois State women's golf team finished the final day of play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Wednesday in Kameohe Bay, Oahu, finishing in 12th place with a team score of 949 (320-311-318).
"Once we are able to get everyone on the same page at the same time, we will be able to set ourselves a part from the competition," head coach Darby Slighsaid. "At this point in time, we can't seem to find that rhythm and its showing in our mediocre performances this spring. Hopefully, we will return to weather that will allow us to put in the time we need to make progress, because we have a lot of work to do to get where we need to be."
Katie Jean led the Redbirds throughout the tournament and finished in a tie for 28th place with a three-round score of 232 (83-72-77). Jordyn Wyzgowski carded a final score of 237 (74-84-79), five strokes behind Jean, and ended the invitational in a tie for 44th place. Rachel Powers fired a 54-hole score of 240 (81-76-83), while Hayley Guyton finished the spring break trip with a final score of 243 (83-79-81). Rounding out the top-five was Carlee Cossell, who tallied a total of 247 (82-84-81).
Courtnee Cossell, who competed as an individual, fired her best round of the tournament in the final day of play, carding a final round score of 84. Cossell ended the tournament with a two-day total of 261 (88-89-84).
Arizona won the team title after three rounds with a team score of 875 (289-293-293). Ohio State finished second as a team with a 900 (296-300-304), while Gonzaga had a final-team score of 902 (300-300-302), giving it a third-place finish.
After two weeks off, ISU will return to the course at the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C. The two-day event will begin on April 1.
