March 10, 2012
ORANGE PARK, Fla. – The Illinois State women’s golf team finds itself in a tie for 17th place after two rounds at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invite. After a second round team score of 314, the Redbirds now have a combined score of 626 at the par-72, 6,282 yard Eagle Landing Golf Club going into the final round.
South Florida maintained its lead in the 18-team tournament Saturday, as the Bulls hold a team score of 584.
Head women’s golf coach Darby Sligh anticipates moving up in the field during the final round.
“Things can only go up from where we stand,” Sligh said. “We had another frustrating scoring round in high winds, but spirits remain high despite our struggles. Katie Jean gave us another solid round, and we have gotten solid work in after both rounds. This extra work has me hopeful that it will pay off tomorrow.”
Jean’s (78-74) two-over-par effort on Saturday currently puts her in a tie for 34th overall in the field with a total score of 152. One stroke behind her is sophomore Brianna Cooper (76-77), who sits in a tie for 37th with a current score of 153. Senior Hannah Bachman (80-81) ended round two with a combined score of 161. Not far behind her is sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski (78-85), who has posted a score of 163. Sophomore Carlee Cossell (85-82) will go into Sunday with a score of 167.
Individual competitor Rachel Powers (81-81) duplicated her first round score, and enters the final round with a tally of 162.
Illinois State will play the final round of the JMU/Eagle Landing Invite Sunday morning.
