Dec. 19, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - Lindsay Smith, a guard from Wisconsin, has transferred to Illinois State to join the women's basketball team, as announced by head coach Stephanie Glance Wednesday. Smith will enroll in classes for the spring semester as a sophomore. She will be eligible to play for the Redbirds after the 2013 fall semester is completed, and is currently a redshirt sophomore.

"We are excited to have Lindsay join our team," Glance said. "I had the pleasure of seeing Lindsay play in high school so I know what she is capable of doing on the floor. She is a very skilled, smart player and a great leader. She has a high basketball IQ. Lindsay is a great addition to our team."

Smith played in 26 games as a freshman at Wisconsin with two starting assignments, averaging 9.7 minutes per game. The DeWitt, Iowa, native earned her first career start at Iowa (Jan. 12), playing 12 minutes and recording three rebounds. Smith averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game last season, scoring in 15 games.

Smith was a four-year letterwinner at Central DeWitt High School. A four-time all-state and all-conference selection, Smith is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,457 points. She is also the all-time leader in assists, steals and three pointers. She was a three-time team captain and led her team to two conference and district championships. Smith was also named a McDonald's All-American nominee and played in the IBCA Elite All-Star game.
