Russell Added to 2013 Final Four Watch List

WESTON, Fla. - Illinois State senior guard Jamie Russell was added to the 2013 Final Four Watch List Wednesday, as announced by Overseas Basketball Combines. The watch list is made up of seniors eligible for the WNBA draft at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Thirty finalists will have the opportunity to attend the Third-Annual Women's Final Four Combine in New Orleans, April 4-6, to showcase their talents. During the combine, finalists will participate in three scouted games, individual filmed workouts and evaluations of skills. A final roster of finalists will be sent out in February.

Russell, the 2012 Valley Newcomer of the Year, was selected as a MVC Preseason All-Conference selection. Russell is coming off of a strong junior season and looks to lead the Redbirds through the 2012-13 season as the returning Redbird with most minutes played. Russell was the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year and an All-MVC First Team and All-Defensive Team selection. She was also named the team's Most Valuable Player, along with Katie Broadway, as well as the Best Defensive and Hustle Awards. She started all 32 games last season and led the Redbirds in free-throw percentage (.794), assists (109) and steals (82). The Rock Falls, Ill., native was named the Valley Newcomer of the Week six times during the regular season and had 18double-digit scoring efforts in the last 22 games.

At the conclusion of the 2012 Final Four Combine, three players signed WNBA contracts and 21 are currently playing overseas.

Russell and the Redbirds will open regular season play in the Preseason WNIT. ISU will host Morehead State, Friday, Nov. 9, at 7:05 p.m., in the Shirk Center on Illinois Wesleyan's campus.
