Women's Basketball Signs Crump to 2012-13 Roster
Aug. 20, 2012
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head women's basketball coach Stephanie Glance added forward Octavia Crump to the women's basketball roster.
"We are excited that Sue (her nickname) is joining our Redbird Family," Glance said. "She brings depth, athleticism and strength to our inside game."
Crump, a native of Zion, Ill., was a four-year letterwinner at Zion-Benton High School, where as a junior, she led the team to a second-place finish in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) 4A basketball tournament, after a loss to Bolingbrook in the 2010-11 tournament.
As a senior, Crump led Zion-Benton in every statistical category. She averaged 9.7 rebounds and 15 points-per-game and ended the 2011-12 season with 451 points, shooting 49 percent (170-of-344) from the field. She collected 292 boards at the end of the season, while averaging 2.5 steals per game and 1.5 assists per game. At the free throw line, Crump sank 62 percent of her shot attempts.
Crump recorded 12 double-doubles during her senior season, including double-double performances in four of her last five games. Late in the season, she scored a career-high 26 points in a 66-49 victory over Fremd (Feb. 18th).
The 6-0 forward brought in several honors at the end of her senior season, as Crump was named the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP), while earning All-North Suburban Conference First-Team honors and Illinois Basketball Coaches' Association (IBCA) All-State First-Team honors.
Coach Glance also announced that junior Marley Hall has left the Illinois State women's basketball team for personal reasons. She will not return to Illinois State for classes.
"We appreciate Marley's contributions to our women's basketball program," Glance said. "We wish her the best in her future endeavors."
