Nelson Volunteers at FCA Power Camp

Aug. 7, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. - Senior Chloe Nelson gave back to the community during the summer, as the senior guard volunteered her time at the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Power Camp.

The four-day camp was held at Eastview Christian Church in Normal. Nelson was the basketball coordinator and youth group mentor in the day-long retreats. Nelson coached various basketball drills and oversaw the high school students who organized youth group chapels or discussion groups.

Though it was Nelson's first time working the camp, she enjoyed the experience and the time she spent with the children.

"It was a cool experience because it was a lot of girls from the community who came to the basketball camp," Nelson said. "So, I got to interact with them in a different way and was more hands on in teaching them the game of basketball, but also about my faith, which I really enjoyed."

Nelson played in every game this season for ISU and started three games. The Florissant, Mo., native averages 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Nelson dished out 46 assists and scored in 17 games. She had eight blocks and 28 steals on the season.

Nelson, who earned All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honorable mention honors, dished out a career-high five assists against Northern Iowa (Jan. 4) and tied a career-high in steals with three at Southern Illinois (Feb. 14). The guard scored a season-high eight points at Illinois (Dec. 21) in ISU's one-point victory.
