NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior Katy Wingehas been named the recipient of the 2013 Jill Hutchison Endowed Scholarship, as announced Wednesday. Winge is the 13th recipient of the scholarship named in honor of the former Redbird head coach.

Head women's basketball coach Barb Smithbelieves Winge is deserving of the award for her role in the Redbird program.

"When I think of Jill Hutchinson, I think of passion, work ethic and commitment," Smith said. "Katy Wingeexemplifies those qualities every day, both on and off the court. Katy is one of the hardest working student-athletes I've coached. No matter what the job entails, Katy is committed to and passionate about the outcome. Congratulations to Katy on receiving the Hutchinson Endowment."

Winge played in 32 games for the Redbirds during the 2012-13 season and started in 10 contests. She averaged 2.5 points per game and had 21 assists, eight steals and six blocks. Winge scored a career-high 15 points against Ball State (Dec. 16), sinking five shots beyond the three-point line in 30 minutes. The five made three-pointers and 30 minutes played were both career-highs for Winge. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native was also a member of the Leadership Team during the 2012-13 season.

Winge was appreciative of the honor, especially one that is named after a Redbird great.

She is such an inspiration and a role model to young women everywhere. I aspire to be an influential person in the world and impact people the way Jill has, so I could not be more grateful for this amazing honor."
