Head women's basketball coach Stephanie Glancebelieves Nelson is deserving of the award for her role in the Redbird program.

"To be awarded the Jill Hutchinson Endowed Scholarship is a very special honor," Glance said. "Chloe is a class act, both on and off the court and well deserving of such an honor. She is a person of great integrity and character who values hard work and is a role model for others in all that she does. She is the epitome of what Illinois State Women's Basketball represents."

Nelson played in all 32 games for the Redbirds during the 2011-12 and started in 16 contests. She averaged 3.5 points per game, was third on the team in assists (57) and fourth in steals (27). Nelson scored a career-high 10 points against Arkansas State (Dec. 2) and Creighton (Feb. 17) and brought down a career-high seven rebounds in an overtime loss at Missouri State (Feb. 26) in a career-high 37 minutes. The guard was appreciative of the honor, especially one that is named after a Redbird great.

"Jill Hutchison is someone that everyone on the team knows, loves and admires," Nelson said. "So, it is a huge honor for me to receive the endowment that represents such a well-respected person, not only in the Redbird community, but also in the women's athletic arena."

Hutchison spent 28 years as the head coach at Illinois State and earned 428 wins in her career, the most in Redbird basketball history.
