May 29, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State women's basketball coach Barb Smith began to put her coaching staff together, as she added Lisa Hayden to her staff Tuesday as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

"I am thrilled to have Lisa Hayden join the Redbird family," Smith said. "She is a proven winner, a great recruiter, an excellent coach who develops her players, and a person of the highest character. Lisa is one of the best in the profession."

Hayden has spent 12 years in Division I women's basketball and brings a vast knowledge to the Redbird program.

"I am excited to be at Illinois State," Hayden said. "This is a wonderful opportunity to work with Coach Barb Smith, talented players and build upon a great basketball program with a winning tradition."

Hayden has spent the last 12 years in various roles at Miami (Ohio) from assistant coach, recruiting coordinator to associate head coach, which was her role the last four seasons for the RedHawks. She helped coach three of Miami's all-time scoring leaders, 21 All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) honorees and three WBCA All-Region nominees. While at Miami, the RedHawks won three MAC Championships and made four postseason appearances.

At Miami, Hayden worked with other coaches to develop the team's offensive and defensive philosophies and implemented fundamentals to execute the philosophies each season. Hayden also scouted opponents and helped with game strategies, while working with point and off-guards. As the recruiting coordinator for the RedHawks, Hayden coordinated all phases of the recruiting process, including player identification, campus visits, correspondence and evaluation for scheduling staff. She also worked with the student-athletes and their academic progress, coordinated all aspects with team travel and promoted alumni relations.

Prior to her stint at Miami, Hayden spent four years at Mt. Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, as an assistant athletic director and was an assistant girl's basketball coach for two years, before becoming the head coach for two years.
