ST. LOUIS - Following her selection earlier this month as the 2007-08 Jackie Stiles Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, Illinois State junior guard Kristi Cirone was named a recipient of the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award, the league office announced Tuesday. Cirone was one of 10 female student-athletes in The Valley to receive the award that is given three times annually to 10 student-athletes who are in good academic standing, demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service and are participating in a sport during the season of recognition.

Cirone finished the season ranked fifth in ISU single-season history in points (552), third in three-point field goals (64), tied for seventh in free throws (104), seventh in assists (172) and eighth in steals (80). She also became ISU's all-time leader in free throws made (371).

The Chicago native earned her second-consecutive Jackie Stiles Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honor this season, becoming just the fourth player in conference history to achieve that feat. She led The Valley in assists (5.6 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (3.04), and finished second in the conference in scoring (16.3 ppg) and steals (2.6 spg). Cirone was also a first-team All-Valley selection, and earned All-MVC Scholar-Athlete First-Team honors, as well as an All-Valley Defensive Team nod.

In the classroom, Cirone was selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Team, and has been an AFNI Athletics Honor Roll honoree every semester that she has attended Illinois State. A two-time Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Cirone owns a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in exercise science.

Cirone is also active in the Bloomington-Normal, Ill., community, where she has given both her time and effort to the State Farm "Just Read!" program, Recess with the Redbirds, Redbird Kids Club Pen Pals, Westminster Village, the Salvation Army and Home Sweet Home Missions.
