Survivor Recognition Form

NORMAL, Ill. - At the Feb. 10 Play4Kay game, the Illinois State Athletics Department and the women's basketball program invites all cancer survivors to be recognized and uplifted at the event, which supports the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. During the Play4Kay game, cancer survivors will be recognized at halftime and are welcome to a pre-game reception, as the Redbirds take on Creighton at 2:05 p.m.

The Play4Kay game efforts were started by the late North Carolina State women's basketball head coach, Kay Yow. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and fought the disease three times until her death on January 24, 2009. Before her passing, Yow started the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which raises money for scientific research and assists the efforts to fight against women's cancers. The Fund has since grown to reach all across the United States as coaches and student-athletes have embraced the mission of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Play4Kay games were created to recognize the hard battle that cancer patients and survivors fight every day.

For the Illinois State versus Creighton Play4Kay game, all survivors who pre-register will be provided two complimentary game tickets and will be invited to a pre-game reception from 1-2 p.m., sponsored by the ISU Mennonite College of Nursing.

As a 15-year assistant coach under Kay Yow at North Carolina State, Redbird women's basketball head coach Stephanie Glanceis personally aware of the fight against breast cancer. Glance and Illinois State Athletics will continue the fight with a Play4Kay game. The purpose of the event is to raise money for women's cancer research and to promote awareness, while providing an event where cancer survivors can feel the support of the community and the Illinois State women's basketball team in their battle against cancer.
