ISU Women's Basketball Returns Play4Kay Game
January 17, 2013
NORMAL, Ill. - With three members of the Illinois State women's basketball coaching staff having worked directly with legend North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow, ISU's team is personally connected with the fight of breast cancer. Yow lost her courageous battle on Jan. 24, 2009, but head coach Stephanie Glance and Illinois State Athletics will continue the fight with a "Play4Kay" PINK game, to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund on Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. in Redbird Arena, when the Redbirds host Creighton.
The purpose of the event surrounding the game will be to raise awareness for breast cancer and other women's health issues. ISU's women's basketball team will be wearing pink jerseys and shoes for the game. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support of breast cancer awareness. An invitation will also be extended to all cancer survivors to participate in on-court halftime recognition.
An invitation will also be extended to all cancer survivors to participate in an on-court halftime recognition. Survivors interested in participating can print off this form to RSVP for the halftime recognition. Those who pre-resister will receive a confirmation in the mail, including two free tickets to the game and an invitation to the pre-game hosted by the Mennonite College of Nursing.
"The `Play 4Kay' event supports the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and both are very special to me. We have had such a great turnout for the game the last two years that we want to encourage people to come out to support the cause, and support cancer survivors all over the country and certainly in our community," said Glance. "This is a day that we hope will encourage and uplift cancer survivors and their friends and families. It's also a day to honor and remember those we have lost to this terrible disease. Our women's basketball program would like to use this opportunity to reach out to others and play for a greater cause that far exceeds wins and losses on the basketball court."
To coincide with the event, admission to the game will be $1, along with $1 hot dogs and pink lemonade. Pink Nike T-shirts will be sold for $30 on the arena concourse with all proceeds benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Without the generous support of the Mennonite College of Nursing, Frontier Communications, The Pantagraph, Country Financial, Community Cancer Center and the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority as sponsors of this event, this would not be possible.
