NORMAL, Ill. - Katie Broadway scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Illinois State women's basketball team to a 77-56 victory over visiting Illinois-Chicago Monday evening on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.

Broadway was one of three Redbirds in double figures as Alexis Jenkins finished the evening with 19 points and Marley Hall contributed 10. Candace Sykes led Illinois State with six rebounds and the ISU defense held UIC to a 29 percent field goal percentage.

The Redbirds and the Flames traded points for the first four minutes of the game, when Broadway hit a three with 16:05 left in the first half to give ISU a one point lead, 10-9. UIC made two free throws and a shot from behind the arc to take a 14-10 advantage with 14:21 remaining in the half. Broadway hit another three to tie the game, 18-18, at the 11:36 mark.

Over the next two minutes, ISU and UIC were both held scoreless. The Flames took a 20-18 lead off of a jumper by Jasmine Bailey, but Broadway hit a trey to tie the game for the fourth time in the half, making it 21-21 with 18:18 left in the half. UIC regained the lead with 15:31 left before the break, 26-24, but the Redbirds ended the half with a 13-0 run that lasted for 4:44, and took an 11-point lead into the locker room at 37-26.

The Redbirds maintained their momentum from the first half, as they went on an 8-2 run to start the second half, taking a 45-28 lead. ISU stayed hot offensively, going on a 17-6 run that lasted nearly seven minutes to lengthen its lead to 62-35 with 10:37 left in the game.

UIC got within 21 points with 7:36 remaining, but would get no closer as the Redbirds prevailed, 77-56.

Kiara Strickland led the Flames with 17 points, while Bailey added 14 and Taylor Foulks pitched in 11 more. Bailey also led UIC with eight rebounds and three assists.

Illinois State will travel to Tempe, Ariz., to compete in the ASU Classic Friday and Saturday (Dec. 2-3). The Redbirds will face Arkansas State Friday at 1:30 p.m. (CST), depending on the outcome of the game, they will play either Arizona State or Easter Washington Saturday.
