Krick, Broadway Light Up Indiana State From Long Range
Jan. 8, 2010
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Maggie Krick and sophomore Katie Broadway combined for all of Illinois State's season-high 10 three-pointers, leading the Redbirds (9-5, 2-1 MVC) to a 69-53 win over Indiana State (9-5, 0-3 MVC) Friday night. The duo combined for 46 points.
Krick scored a season-high 26 points, one shy of the career-best mark she set her sophomore season against South Florida. She made a career-best 11 field goals, including four three-pointers, and had six rebounds. Broadway recorded a career-high for the second-consecutive game with 20 points. She made six three-pointers, which was one shy of the Illinois State single-game record.
Senior Ashleen Bracey recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Illinois State shot 50 percent for the second-straight game and its 10 three-pointers were the most since a Valentine's Day win over Wichita State last year.
After starting the game just 2-for-8 from the field, the Redbirds went on a 15-2 run to take a 19-13 lead midway through the half. Krick scored nine points and sophomore Broadway nailed two three-pointers to provide all the scoring during the Redbird run.
Indiana State cut the lead down to two points, but Broadway stayed hot with three more three-pointers as the Redbirds outscored the Sycamores 11-0 in the final 2:32 to take a 34-21 lead at halftime. Broadway finished the half with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range, eclipsing the career-best marks she set against SIU Edwardsville earlier in the week.
Indiana State used a 10-2 run to pull within five points, 43-38, in the second half. Krick answered quickly with three three-pointers, keeping the Redbird lead at double-figures, 56-43. Krick moved past Megan McCracken for fourth place on the Illinois State career three-point list, ending the game with 152.
Broadway scored five-straight points to give ISU its biggest lead of the night, 67-48, and her 20 points for the first time in her career.
