July 20, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State fans and alumni in the Quad Cities area will be able to listen to Redbird football and men's basketball games for at least the next three seasons, thanks to a recently signed three-year affiliate contract as WYEC 93.9 FM joins the Illinois State Sports Network.

"We are really excited about this new partnership with Fletcher Ford and his staff at WYEC," Illinois State Associate Athletics Director for Athletics Communications Todd Kober said. "I also would like to thank Dennis Lyle from the Illinois Broadcasters Association for bringing the parties together. The Quad Cities is an area we have had our eyes on for quite a while, and we are thrilled to be bringing Illinois State Athletics to our fans and alumni on the western side of the state."

WYEC will carry at least 80 percent of Illinois State football and men's basketball games each season. A final broadcast schedule will be issued at a later date.

"I am extremely excited about our new long-term relationship with Illinois State University," said Ford, the General Manager of Regional Media and Virden Broadcasting Corporation. "Broadcasting the Redbird games will expand our overall coverage of sports and provide another amazing benefit to the WYEC listeners of the Quad Cities."

Other stations on the Illinois State Sports Network include WJBC-AM 1230 and FM 93.7 in Bloomington (flagship), WFMB-AM 1450 in Springfield, ESPN Peoria WZPN 96.5, ESPN Decatur 1050 AM, WJEZ-FM 98.9 in Dwight and WVON-AM 1690 in Chicago. Negotiations with other stations throughout the state are ongoing.
