Nov. 16, 2011
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State men's tennis signed Michael Sellitto for the 2012-13 season, as announced by head coach Cris James Wednesday. Sellitto, a product of Glenview, Ill., will join the Redbirds next fall to continue his academic and athletic careers.
James is enthusiastic about the newest addition to his team.
"I think Michael has a lot of potential to be a great player in our program," said James. "He has shown excellent leadership characteristics throughout his high school experience, which is what we look for."
Sellitto's accomplishments began his freshman year, when he placed third in doubles-play at the Illinois High School Association tournament. He continued on to be a three-time state qualifier. He finished 13th in singles-play at IHSA State finals as a junior. In addition, Sellitto has qualified for the US Junior National Championships at Kalamazoo and has been ranked in the top 90 in the nation.
Currently, Sellitto is ranked as a four-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net and the No.132 high school senior by the same site.
Recently, Sellitto had wins over two "Blue Chip" recruits, ranked by tennisrecruiting.net. He holds the eighth spot on the Glenbrook South All-Time wins list with 108 wins, with his senior season remaining.
James is excited to welcome another player from the area.
"We've been working hard to bring some in-state talent into our program," said James. "Michael has had a great career so far with several significant wins, so we are looking forward to getting to work with him in the fall."
