Redbirds Dominate in Doubles Action at Northwestern Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team won two of three singles matches at the Northwestern Invitational Saturday, Oct. 27 in Evanston, Ill. The Redbirds dominated in doubles play.

Jacob Wilson and Michael Sellitto defeated Garrett Cona and Grant Adams of Toledo in doubles action, 9-7.

Assistant coach J.P. Ritchie was impressed with the `Birds performance.

"Jacob and Mike played tough today and performed well together," said Ritchie. "They played a tough team and were able to come out on top."

The `Birds were able to carry their momentum into singles competition.

Sellitto defeated Bryant Dudzik of Toledo in singles play, 6-2, 6-1, while Wilson beat Ben Brocker of Toledo, 6-2, 6-3. Muddappa Appanervanda fell to Adam Reinhart of DePaul, 7-5, 7-6.

"Mike and Jacob played very well today and were definitely deserving of their victories," said Ritchie. "Mike played the most complete match he's played since he's been in college and I was extremely proud of his performance."



The Redbirds continue competition at the Northwestern Invitational Sunday, Oct. 28 with singles action at 8 a.m. Tomorrows matches will conclude the tournament.
