EVANSTON, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team won two of three singles matches at the Northwestern Invitational Friday Oct. 26 in Evanston, Ill. The Redbirds were defeated in doubles play.

Muddappa Appanervanda defeated Alexander Kokorev of Wisconsin in singles action, 4-6, 7-5 (10-7), while Michael Sellitto beat Dobradin of Purdue in the third set tie breaker, 10-8. Jacob Wilson was defeated by Jakhongir Jalalov of Wisconsin, 4-6, 6-2 (5).

Assistant coach J.P. Ritchie thought the guys played hard and deserved today's wins.

"Muddappa and Mike both won very close matches against good opponents," said Ritchie. "Muddappa especially showed a lot of heart being down 6-4, 5-3, and coming back to win."

Appanervanda and Wilson lost to Mamalat and Teofanovic of Marquette, 8-4, and Estenssoro and Tomlins of Iowa, 8-6.

"The guys played well today but the biggest thing we need to improve on is playing the important points smarter and continuing to stay confident throughout the match," said Ritchie.
