Redbirds Defeat No. 3 Doubles Team in the Country

LANSING, Mich. - Alexander Pelaez and Erik Brunskog defeated the No. 3 doubles team in the country at the ITA Regional Championships in Lansing, Mich. Saturday Oct. 20. The Redbirds continued their momentum into the evening by dominating in their second round of doubles action to advance to the quarter final rounds.

Pelaez and Brunskog defeated King and Bernstein of Michigan, the No. 3 doubles team in the country and the No. 1 seed in the tournament, 8-6. The duo then beat Page and Hoh of Illinois, 8-2.

Head coach Cris James was extremely proud of the guy's success in doubles play.

"I think the sky is the limit for these guys in doubles," said James. "They play better and better with each match they play together and I think we will be seeing some big things from these guys in doubles action."

The `Birds fought hard in singles play but could not quite pull out a win.

Pelaez was defeated in singles action by Aaron Pfister of Michigan State, 6-2.

"Alex played pretty well against a guy who is ranked No. 66 in the country," said James. "He fought hard and did all he could do but the other guy played just a little bit better."

The Redbirds continue play at the ITA Regional Championships Sunday Oct. 21 in Lansing, Mich. with the quarter final round of doubles action.
