LANSING, Mich. - The Illinois State men's tennis team will advance in doubles action at the ITA Regional Championships in Lansing, Mich. Alexander Pelaez dominated in singles play while Erik Brunskog fell in the first round of action.

Pelaez and Brunskog started off the morning strong by defeating Jackman and Baev of Northwestern, 8-5, to advance in doubles action.

"We did just enough to pull out a win in doubles and definitely have some things we need to improve on for tomorrow," said head coach Cris James. "We play the number one seeds in doubles tomorrow and I think we have a chance of winning if we play just a little better than we did today."

Pelaez continued the `Birds momentum into the afternoon matches by defeating Alex Lawson of Notre Dame, 6-2 and 6-3.

"Alex won pretty convincingly and I thought he played very well today," said James. "If he continues playing the way he did today I think he can do some pretty big damage in this tournament. His confidence is growing and he seems to be getting better and better with each tournament we play."

Brunskog lost to Tim Kopinski of Illinois in the third set of singles action, 6-4.

"I was happy with Erik's overall performance, he just needs to be a little more confident in the important moments of the match," said James. "He played hard and lost to a very good player."
