Pelaez, Brunskog represent Redbirds at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. - Alexander Pelaez and Erik Brunskog represented the Illinois State men's tennis team at the ITA All-American Championships Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. Both players advanced to the third round of the pre-qualifying singles to be continued at Sunday's competition.

After receiving a first round bye, Brunskog defeated David Kelleher of Texas San Antonio, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, to advance to the third round of the pre-qualifying singles. Pelaez defeated Jonathan Cornish of Virginia, 7-6 and 6-1, to continue on to the second round of the pre-qualifying singles. He then beat Szymon Tatarczyk of Purdue University, 7-5 and 7-6, to advance to the third round.

"Alex and Erik both fought through some adversity at today's matches," said assistant coach J.P. Ritchie. "Alex played two tough matches against two good players and found a way to come out on top of both. We are happy to be moving forward in the tournament and look forward to tomorrow's competition."

The Redbirds will continue competing at the ITA All-American Championships Sunday in Tulsa, Okla. at all day events.
