MUNCIE, Ind. - The Illinois State men's tennis team lost three singles matches at the Ball State Invitational Friday in Muncie, Ind. The Redbirds were able to advance in the consolation bracket.

Head coach Cris James was disappointed with the day's results and hopes the team can work on consistency.

"We did not play very well in the morning matches, but I was happier with the afternoon singles," said James. "The guys made some of the adjustments I asked of them from the earlier matches."

After Jacob Wilson was defeated by Austin Woldmoe of Butler University, 6-1 and 6-3, he placed into the consolation bracket and defeated Matt Ford of Cleveland State, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(5), and advanced to the quarter finals.

Michael Sellitto was defeated by Armaan Choudhary of Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis, 7-6 (5) and 6-4, and then beat Martin Muadi of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 7-5 and 6-0, in the consolation bracket to advance to the quarter finals.

Muddappa Appanervanda lost to David Packowitz of Marquette University, 6-2 and 6-1.

After advancing in the consolation brackets of singles, the Redbirds struggled in doubles action.

Appanervanda and Sellitto lost to Dalton Albertin and Ray Leonard of Ball State, 8-1.

"Tomorrow the guys just have to understand that they need to be consistent competitors and be mentally prepared for every match," said James. "They know that if they have a bad performance, they have the next practice or competition to improve on their mistakes."
