Redbirds Prepare for Action at Two Upcoming Tournaments
Sept. 27, 2012
NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State men's tennis team will compete at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind. September 28-30 and the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Sept. 29-Oct. 7. The Redbirds have a big week of matches to prepare for.
Head coach Cris James is hopeful this weekend's tournaments will result in a better outcome than their last performance.
"I have seen a lot of progress in our last couple of practices," said James. "I feel like the guys are playing at a higher level and with a little more confidence."
The ITA All-American Championships is a top national tournament where Pelaez and Brunskog will be competing.
"There will be a lot of good players and opportunities at this competition," said James. "Hopefully the guys can come through with a couple of wins along the way."
James has high hopes for Appanervanda, Wilson and Sellitto as they compete at the Ball State Invitational, accompanied by assistant coach J.P. Ritchie.
"Hopefully the guys can get a couple of wins and gain some more confidence," said James. "I hope they will be a little tougher mentally than they were at the last tournament."
The Ball State Invitational begins Friday at an all-day event. The ITA All-American Tournaments will begin Saturday at an all day event.
