Brunskog and Pelaez Earn All-Select and Scholar-Athlete Recognition

WICHITA, Kan. - Junior Erik Brunskog and senior Alexander Pelaez were named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Select Team, announced Thursday night, preceding the Valley Team Tennis Championship hosted by Wichita State. Brunskog and Pelaez also garnered Valley Scholar-Athlete First Team accolades.

Brunskog has a current singles record of 13-7 and a doubles record of 3-10 this spring. He also received a national doubles ranking of 58th and a regional ranking of fourth with Pelaez in 2012. The duo defeated the No. 3 doubles team in the country at the ITA Regional Championships in October 2012. Brunskog, who has a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in business, is an AFNI Honor Roll qualifier.

Pelaez is currently 14-8 in singles and 5-10 in doubles. In addition to the national ranking he shared with Brunskog, Pelaez received a regional singles ranking of 17th in 2012. The Havana, Cuba, native won the doubles title with partner Muddappa Appanervanda at the Louisville Invitational in November 2012, and Pelaez Won the No. 1 doubles flight title with Jakub Eisner at the Valley Individual Championships. Pelaez is also an AFNI Honor Roll member after amassing a 3.42 GPA in business.

Along with this year's All-Select Team and Scholar-Athlete First Team recognition, Pelaez was also named to the 2010 All-Valley First Team at No. 2 singles, and he was the 2010 Valley Freshman of the Year and a 2012 Scholar-Athlete First Team member.

Brunskog, Pelaez and the Redbirds enter the 2013 Valley Team Championships as the No. 4 seed. ISU will begin with a quarterfinal match against No. 5 Bradley, Friday at 12:30 p.m. CST in Wichita, Kan.
