NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team will take on Wichita State Sunday, April 14 at Gregory Street Courts. This will be the last home match for the Redbirds, and senior day for ISU senior, Alexander Pelaez.

Pelaez has countless notable accomplishments as a student-athlete at Illinois State. He recently tied the record for the most overall career singles wins in ISU tennis history. Earlier this year he surpassed the career lead for doubles wins as well. Pelaez has 96 career singles victories and 93 career doubles victories to date.

Head coach Cris James is proud of Pelaez's accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.

"I think it's a pretty tremendous accomplishment for him to be the overall leader in doubles and singles wins at ISU," said James. "I think at some point in his tennis career he noticed he was on that track to success and become very motivated. Alex is also a hard-working student in the classroom, making honor role the past six or seven semesters."

Pelaez achieved much success on the court throughout his senior year. He received a national doubles ranking of 58th and a regional ranking of fourth with doubles partner Erik Brunskog, and also received a regional singles ranking of 17th. In the fall 2012 season, he defeated the No. 3 doubles team in the country with Brunskog at the ITA Regional Championships, and won the No. 1 doubles flight title with doubles partner Jakub Eisner at the MVC Individual Championships.

"He does pretty much everything you could ask of him and he has improved each of his four years," said James. "I think he's having his best season overall his senior year. He has turned into a great leader for our team and is everything we could hope for in a student-athlete."

The conference match against Wichita State will begin at 10 a.m. There will be free food provided by the Rock Restaurant and prize give aways for attendees. The grand prize is valued at over 250 dollars. Fans must be at Gregory Street Courts by 11 a.m. and stay the entire match in order to claim their prize.

"We are hoping to see a big crowd come out for Alex's last home match, and also support us at this big match for us against Wichita state," said James. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
