NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team will take on Southern Illinois Sunday, April 7 at Gregory Street Courts. The match against Southern Illinois is the first outdoor home match for ISU this season, which has a 5-10 overall record.

"We have had good success against SIU in the past couple years, but I believe they are a bit stronger this year so I am anticipating a tough match," said head coach Cris James. "Their schedule this year hasn't been as tough as ours has, but they have done a lot of winning so I assume they are feeling confident coming into the match. Hopefully our tough schedule has prepared us well in other ways."

The Redbirds enter this match against Southern Illinois after claiming fifth place this past weekend at the MT Shootout. ISU went 2-1 in the tournament, falling to Georgia State, 4-1, in the first round. The `Birds then moved into the consolation semifinal round against Florida Atlantic coming out victorious, 4-1, and then moving forward to defeat Troy, 4-0.

"I think it's important that we have been preaching the same things consistently all year," said James. "I would just like to see us start to put everything together, starting with doubles and then get consistent play at all six spots in the lineup. I know if we do that we have a chance to be competitive at the top of the conference this year."
