Redbirds Finish Fifth at the MT Shootout Tournament

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - The Illinois State men's tennis team took fifth place this weekend at the MT Shootout tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Redbirds completed the tournament winning two-of-three matches.

ISU began Sunday's competition with a 4-0 win against Troy. In the No. 1 spot, Alexander Pelaez defeated Anas Rouchdi, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, while Erik Brunskog took down Sami Ghorbel, 3-6, 7-6, 6-1, in the No. 2 position. Jacob Wilson beat Mansingh Athare, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot and Rolando Torrellas defeated Daniel Bustamante, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 4 position. Jakub Eisner had a 5-2 lead against Andre Stabile, which resulted in an unfinished match. In the No. 6 spot, Rodrigo Oliveira faced Patrick Eichler, also in an unfinished match.

"All of the guys won their matches today and showed a lot of toughness pulling out their wins," said assistant coach J.P. Ritchie. "Overall the weekend was good. We showed a lot of heart and got back on the winning track which is always a good thing."
