Men's Tennis Defeats St. John's, 4-3

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Illinois State men's tennis team defeated St. John's, 4-3, Friday afternoon, to bring their season record to .500 (3-3) on the season. ISU has gained the early doubles point advantage in four-out-of-six matches this season.
Jakub Eisner and Rolando Torrellas defeated Lucas Hejhal and Vaidik Minshaw, 8-7. Jacob Wilson and Urh Kranjc Domiter lost a battle to RJ Delunzio and Enick Reyes, 8-5, while Muddappa Appanervanda and Rodrigo Oliveira beat Robert Livi and MJ Every, 8-7.
Head coach Mark Klysner said he was pleased with the way his team competed Friday.
"I'm so excited for these guys and the effort they put in today." Klysner said. "Rodrigo was clutch, fighting off two match points, and then winning the deciding match in three sets."
In singles action, Oliveira defeated Ruiz in a three-set battle 1-6, 7-6, 6-4. Eisner lost to Reyes, 6-2, 6-4. Wilson won against RJ Delumzio, 6-4, 6-2.
Kranjc Domiter lost to Lucas Heihal, 6-3, 6-4. Appanervanda lost to Munshaw, 6-2, 6-4, while, Torellas defeated Livi, 6-2, 6-3.
"We'll try and keep the momentum going into Sunday when we play Penn," Klysner said.
ISU returns to action, Sunday, Feb. 23, to face Penn at 10 a.m. CT.
