NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State's men's tennis team will host Illinois-Chicago (UIC) at the Evergreen Racquet Club, Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2:30 p.m., for its second match of the spring season. The Redbirds (1-0) are looking to continue their success after coming off their first victory of the season against Eastern Illinois, 6-1, earlier this week.

The Redbird morale is high and head coach Cris James would like to see the team bring the same energy from the Eastern Illinois' match into Saturday's soirée with UIC.

"We performed well Thursday against Eastern [Illinois]," said James. "I hope we take some confidence from that, and come out and play with the same intensity and focus on Saturday against UIC."

The `Birds are led by freshman Skip Span, who currently posts an 11-4 overall record in singles, and sophomores Timon Reichelt and Filip Miljevic, who boasts a 7-3 record as a doubles team.

UIC, which is 1-3 on the season, opened team-play against DePaul, Jan. 11, when the Flames suffered a 6-1 loss. UIC also fell, 7-0, to Marquette and Northwestern. The sole win for the Flames was against IUPUI, sweeping them 7-0.

The Flames traveled to ISU in January 2008 for the Redbird's home opener, when Illinois State claimed a 5-2 victory over UIC. The Redbirds won four-of-six matches in singles and all three doubles matches, last season.
