IOWA CITY, Iowa. - The Illinois State men's tennis team won its dual match against Loyola Marymount Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa. The Redbirds played a perfect 7-0 game to claim their second dual match victory of the season.

Head coach Cris James is proud of the team's performance and thinks the `Birds are off to a great season start.

The Redbirds started strong in doubles action, winning 3-of-3 matches. Alexander Pelaez and Muddappa Appanervanda defeated Nicholas Bjerke and Sebastian Bustamante, 8-4. Erik Brunskog and Rolondo Torrellas took down Todd Volmari and Felix Van Kann, 8-5, while Jakub Eisner and Michael Sellitto took on Cristobal Rivera and Daniel Simko in an unfinished game.

"Today was another great team effort. It was pretty competitive but we were able to win all of our matches," said James. "The guys were all able to get it done in the clutch moments and I was very happy with their performances today."

The `Birds were able to carry their momentum into singles play, winning all six singles matches.

In the No. 1 spot, Pelaez breezed past Nicholas Bjerke, 6-1, 6-2, while Brunskog defeated Othar Kordsachia, 6-4, 7-6 (5), in the No. 2 spot. Eisner picked up a win in the No. 3 spot after defeating Felix Van Kann, 6-7 (1), 6-4, 6-2. In the No. 4 spot, Jacob Wilson beat Cristobal Rivera, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-3, and Torrellas in the No. 5 spot took down Sebastian Bustamante, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Sellitto was also able to win against Daniel Simko , 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, in the No. 6 spot.

"All of our singles matches were close except for Alex's match which he won pretty convincingly," said James. "We have been preaching toughness all year and they guys are definitely showing a lot of that right now. I know we are going to keep getting better and I know we can still play at an even higher level."
