Men's Tennis Starts Spring Season With Double-Header

Jan. 19, 2014

TULSA, Okla - The Illinois State men's tennis team begins its spring season this Sunday, Jan. 19, against SMU and No. 25 ranked Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. This will be the team's first action since wrapping up the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships on Nov. 10.

The squad of eight will be competing in 17 matches, including two tournaments this spring season. Illinois State is scheduled to host this year's MVC Championships April 25-27.

Head coach Mark Klysner expects his team to be challenged come Sunday.

"I am looking forward to playing two tough matches this weekend. Tulsa, being ranked in the Top 25, will prove to be a very tough match for us, but it will give the guys an idea about where we stand with one of the best teams in the country, Klysner said. SMU, is always a solid team, and we will have to play very well to come out with a win. It's early in the season, so I don't put too much on these matches, but I do want to have a good showing and get an idea of what we need to improve on for our upcoming matches."

The Redbirds begin Sunday's action against SMU at 8 a.m. CT, followed by Tulsa at 5 p.m. CT.
