State Farm MVC Individual Championships Preview with Cris James

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team will compete in the State Farm MVC Individual Championship Friday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Singles play will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Head coach Cris James prepared his team for the strong competition they will be up against.

"It was a short week after a day off and only a couple days of practice before we had to leave again," said James. "We are focused on trying to reinforce some tactical things, working with some individual needs of different guys, and spending time on doubles."

The competition will be fierce as the `Birds continue to strive towards their goal of achieving a conference title at the end of the year.

"There are a couple teams that will be there that we are very competitive with so it will make for some close matches," said James. "We just need to continue to improve our mental game and the competition this weekend will definitely be at the right level to work on that."

James has high expectations for his team's performance at the tournament.

"The last few years we have done well so I think we have expectations certainly of being one of the top teams there this weekend," said James. "Right now we just need to focus on playing better and hopefully the results take care of themselves."
