NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team is set to begin its spring season at the MVC Individual Championships Friday in Des Moines, Iowa. The MVC Individual Championships start Friday morning and continue through Sunday at all day events.

Head coach Cris James is excited to see how the `Birds perform at this season opener.

"I am just as interested in how the guys compete this weekend as much as I am in the results," said James. "This weekend will also give us an opportunity to prepare our team for the upcoming team matches, as well as getting a lot of match play in after a long break."

This weekend will also be the first Redbird performance for recent recruits Jakub Eisner and Rolondo Torrellas.

"We are definitely excited to see what the new guys can do this weekend," said James. "It will be great for them to get their feet wet and see the intensity of a competition versus our conference opponents."

The Redbirds begin play at the MVC Individual Championships Friday, Jan. 18 in Des Moines, Iowa.
