Dylan Steffens and Doubles Teams Conclude Successful Day One at Louisville Winter Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Dylan Steffens, and three doubles pairings capped off a successful day one at the Louisville Winter Invitational played at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Illinois State Men's Tennis team won 10 of 15 possible matches for the day.
In Flight B Singles play, Steffans stole the show advancing to the finals where he will take on Morehead State's David Clifford Saturday. Steffans blanked Louisville's Bharani Sankar, 6-0, 6-0 in first round action. He then beat Campellsville's Zach Baulch, 6-2, 6-2.
Head Coach Mark Klysner thought the team as a whole put together a solid first day at the Louisville Invite.
"We came out strong this morning and played some solid doubles matches winning all three. We had some good singles wins as well. I am excited for Dylan Steffens who won all his singles matches today," Klysner said.
Rolando Torrellas and Jakub Eisner beat Warren Kuhn and Garret Mandrell of Vincennes, 8-3 in the the first round of Flight A Doubles play. The duo of Jacob Wilson and Steffens defeated Sebastian Marot and Zach Baulch of Campellsville, 9-7. Rodrigo Oliveira and Muddappa Appanervanda beat host school Louisville's Harry Kelleher and Bharani Sankar, 8-3.
In Flight A Singles action Torrellas lost to Yaninick Born of Middle Tennessee State, 6-2, 6-2. Torrellas took on Alejandro Soriano in consolation round action and defeated him in two sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Eisner was defeated by Ettore Zito of Middle Tennessee State, 6-2, 6-3. Eisner then won a consolation matchup against Sebastian Marot of Campellsville, 6-1, 6-3.
Torrellas lost to Middle Tennessee State's Yannick Born, 6-2, 6-2. Torrellas then trumped Purdue's Matt Bouggy, 6-2, 6-2 in consolation round play.
Appanervanda lost to Louisville's Luis Elizondo, 6-3, 6-3 in first round action. Appanervanda defeated Louisville's Steed Johnson on his home court, 7-5, 6-1.
Wilson snagged a first round victory when he beat Morehead State's Ji Hoon Heo, 6-3, 6-3. Wilson then lost a tough match to Nils Ellefsen of Kentucky, 6-4, 7-6
Doubles play starts at 9 a.m. tomorrow, with singles action to follow at 10:30 a.m., at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
