Redbirds Continue Success at Bradley Invitational
Sept. 22, 2007
PEORIA, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team continued their stellar play at the Bradley Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22. The Redbirds went undefeated, winning five singles matches and five doubles matches on the second day of the competition.
"We were tested more today than we were yesterday," said head coach Cris James. "I learned a lot about the guys as they played in a few closer matches. I saw a few things that I think we can improve on, but I was pleased with their mental toughness in those close matches."
In singles action, the `Birds won four matches in straight-sets and captured a fifth in a tie-breaker. Senior Luka Marinkovic beat Bastian Harbo (UIC) in a match that went to a tie-breaker, 6-0, 3-6, (10-8). Fellow senior Oscar Beich topped Sam McSpadden (SLU), 6-2, 6-3. Junior Nuno Jacinto defeated Javier Saab (IUPUI), 6-3, 6-3. Sophomores Xavier Riart-Ferrer and Michael Hobson won matches against players from Valparaiso and St. Louis University, respectively.

In A Draw action Marinkovic paired with Beich to best Sebastian Lystad and Andy Lockhart (UIC), 8-3, in the semifinals. In the finals, the pair drew Bastian Harbo and Adriano Licordo (UIC), who they beat, 8-3, making Marinkovic and Beich the A Draw champions.
