BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Strong doubles play for the Illinois State men's tennis team carried into singles action, as the Redbirds defeated Western Michigan, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Evergreen Racquet Club, marking the first victory for the Redbirds (2-3) over Western Michigan (4-2) since the 2010-11 season.

Jakub Eisner and Rolando Torrellas defeated Nadin Indre and Stephen Payne, 6-1, and Jacob Wilson and Urh Kranjc Domiter beat Michael Treis and Andrew Cahn, 6-2, while Muddappa Appanervanda and Rodrigo Oliveira won against Ruben Greiner and Jim Beckwith, 5-4, to earn the doubles point.

Head coach Mark Klysner was pleased with the effort his squad displayed against Western Michigan

"I'm extremely proud of the way the guys came out and played today," Klysner said. "I thought that was the best doubles we have played all season. We did a good job of keeping the momentum all day."

In singles action, Wilson beat Greiner, 6-4, 6-2, Kranjc Domiter won against Beckwith, 6-5, 6-3, and Appanervanda defeated Treis, 6-4, 6-2.

Oliveira lost to Cahn in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Steffens fell to Matthew Hamilton, 6-3, 6-4. Eisner came up short against Indre, 6-4, 6-3.
